Coconut Juice in a Can: Sizes, Cartons and What Is Inside

Seoul Oasis 4 min read

Walk into a grocery in Deira, Karama or Al Nahda and ask for coconut water in a can, and you will hear three names for the same thing: coconut water, coconut juice and buko juice. Our search data says UAE shoppers type all three. This guide explains what the Oasis can actually holds, how the two sizes compare, and how many cartons a shop, cafe or office should order.

Coconut water, coconut juice, buko juice: one drink

Coconut water is the clear liquid inside a young coconut. Many people in the UAE call it coconut juice, and Filipino shoppers often call it buko juice, because buko is the Tagalog word for a young coconut. On a shelf, all three names point to the same product. It is not coconut milk, which is pressed from the white flesh and is thick and fatty.

Oasis Coconut Water with Pulp is coconut water with small pieces of coconut flesh in it. The can lists two ingredients and nothing else:

  • 95% coconut water
  • 5% coconut pulp

There is no added sugar and no preservative. The sugar you see on the label comes from the coconut itself, which is why we describe it as no added sugar and never as anything stronger. For the longer story on the pulp and the full label, read our guide to coconut water with pulp.

What is in each can

Both sizes come from the same recipe, so the figures scale with the volume. Per 100 ml you get roughly 24 kcal and just under 6 g of sugars.

Per can 330ml can 500ml can
Energy 79 kcal 120 kcal
Total sugars (all from the coconut) 19 g 29 g
Potassium 297 mg 450 mg
Sodium 99 mg 150 mg
Added sugar none none

A 500ml can gives about the potassium of a banana. We do not describe it as rich in potassium, and the pulp is there for texture and taste rather than as a fibre source. The pH sits around 4.8.

Is it a juice drink with sugar added?

This is the question we get most often on the phone. No. Many canned "coconut drinks" in the market are coconut flavoured water with sugar syrup. Oasis is coconut water with pulp, and its ingredient list has nothing added to it. If you are comparing cans on a shelf, read the ingredient line first: if sugar, syrup or flavouring appears, it is a different kind of drink.

330ml or 500ml: which can to choose

The 330ml can

The 330ml can is the size most people expect from a cold drink fridge. It suits lunch boxes, a single serving after a walk, and shops that sell by the piece next to soft drinks. The 330ml sells out from time to time, so check the collection for what is available today.

The 500ml can

The 500ml can holds half a litre, enough to share or to drink across a long afternoon. Gyms, offices and family households tend to prefer it, because one can replaces one and a half small ones and there is less packaging to clear away.

Single cans or cartons

Every size is sold in two ways. Single cans are listed in the coconut water cans collection, which is the easy way to try both sizes. Cartons hold 24 cans of one size and are listed in the coconut water cartons collection. Shops, cafes, restaurants and offices usually buy by the carton, and a household that drinks a can a day will find a carton easier than repeat orders.

Carton maths for shops and offices

A carton is always 24 cans of one size. That makes planning simple:

Carton Cans Total volume
Carton of 330ml cans 24 7.92 litres
Carton of 500ml cans 24 12 litres

A few working examples we use with customers:

  • A grocery fridge selling 6 cans a day uses one carton every 4 days, so 2 cartons cover a week with a small buffer.
  • An office of 20 people where half take one can each working day needs about 10 cans a day, or 50 a week: that is just over 2 cartons a week, and 10 cartons cover a month of 22 working days (220 cans).
  • A cafe that sells 12 cans across a weekend needs half a carton per weekend, so one carton covers two weekends.

With a 24 month shelf life, a shop does not have to order tightly. Keeping one spare carton in the store room avoids empty fridge space between deliveries.

Storage and serving

  • Store unopened cartons somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sun. A UAE car boot or a loading bay in summer is not a store room.
  • Chill before serving. Most customers drink it straight from the fridge, and it also works poured over ice.
  • Pulp settles to the bottom of the can while it stands. Turn the can over gently once or twice before opening so the pieces spread through the drink.
  • Once opened, keep the can in the fridge and finish it the same day.

For trade buyers

Oasis Coconut Water with Pulp is halal and made under HACCP to UAE standards. A certificate of analysis is available on request for buyers who need it for their own records. Payment is online or by bank transfer, and delivery is free on UAE orders above AED 300.

Next step

To try both sizes, start with single cans in the coconut water cans collection. If you already know your weekly volume, go straight to the cartons of 24 cans and choose 330ml or 500ml.
